Description

As part of the UW Department of Radiology’s communications team, the communications specialist will join the communications manager, another communications specialist and a web operations manager in driving the proactive creation of compelling content targeting a wide variety of external and internal audiences.

Primary responsibilities include writing articles that translate the complex scientific and clinical work into effective narratives; developing monthly newsletters and slides for internal communications; working with subject matter experts on effective web content; contributing to web strategy and editorial planning; and maintaining a social media presence.

A successful candidate will be a motivated, detail-oriented, and creative professional who can collaborate with a range of stakeholders while also independently managing multiple, concurrent projects. We seek someone who has enthusiasm for learning about radiology and dedication to growing as a communications professional.

This position may require some work to be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location. Some work may be performed remotely, at an offsite, non-campus work location.

Successful candidates will address the following knowledge, skills, and abilities, in their cover letter: 1. Self-directed work style; effective in both independent and collaborative environments. 2. Strong planning and organizational abilities, with excellent attention to detail and effective time‑management skills. 3. Critical-thinking abilities, a strategic mindset, and the ability to identify action steps. 4. Strong interpersonal and customer service skills with the ability to foster effective working relationships.

Are you ready to dive in a fast-paced environment? Responsibilities include:
• Writing articles that translate complex scientific and clinical work into effective narratives
• Working with subject matter experts to enhance department’s web content, which includes helping us continue to build a new, accessible public website in the UW Theme 2.0
• Developing materials for internal audiences including a monthly newsletter and slide deck
• Helping manage intake of news submissions and other requests
• Develop visuals for social media, web and other materials

The department will celebrate our 100th year in 1927 and our work has expanded far beyond simple x-rays! We’re leading a national clinical trial of AI use in breast cancer screening. We’re offering patients a shorter recovery time with a new treatment option for thyroid goiters. We’re advocating for research and screenings. We’re working with undergraduates to solve clinical radiology challenges. We’re even helping high school students scan fossils from millions of years ago!
