Description
KAWC/KOFA Public Radio is seeking a Summer 2026 Revenue & Sponsorship Intern to support local underwriting strategy and business partnership development. This position is funded by the Arizona Media Association to support workforce development in public media. KAWC is an NPR affiliate serving Yuma and La Paz Counties in Arizona. Local business underwriting and day sponsorships are an important part of the station’s revenue model and community engagement strategy.
This is a remote summer internship running May 18 through August 14, 2026.
The internship is structured around weekly virtual check-ins and defined deliverables. Optional travel support may be available for a short onsite visit to Yuma, Arizona. The primary summer project will focus on building and organizing KAWC’s 2026–27 local business sponsorship prospect pipeline and strengthening sponsor communication materials. Responsibilities include researching and compiling a targeted list of local business prospects, analyzing industry fit and categorizing sponsorship potential, building and maintaining a structured underwriting prospect tracker, assisting in drafting sponsor outreach emails and follow-up templates, supporting development of underwriting materials and messaging, and preparing summary reports on research and outreach progress. Depending on experience and performance, the intern may assist with supervised sponsor outreach communications.
This role is ideal for a student interested in public media, strategic communication, nonprofit revenue development, media business operations, or community partnerships.
The intern must be comfortable working independently within structured remote supervision and meeting weekly deliverable deadlines.
The schedule is approximately 8 to 10 hours per week.
Applicants should submit a resume and cover letter to alice.ferris@kawc.org and briefly describe their interest in public media or sponsorship strategy, a project that required independent research or organization, and their experience with writing, research, or data organization.
