Description

Ready to ignite your passion for storytelling in a community that lives and breathes news and sports? (Especially when the Huskers are playing!) We’re on the hunt for a dynamic News/Sports Multimedia Journalist to join our team at KOLN – 10/11 News, the #1 station in Lincoln. If you’re a multi-platform journalist who thrives on breaking news, game-day energy, and connecting with audiences across every screen, then keep reading. We’re not just reporting the news; we’re shaping the future of local media, and we want you to be part of the action!
Think of this role as your ultimate news and sports adventure, with a primary focus on news for the majority of the year. From January to mid-August, you’ll be on the front lines, covering the daily pulse of Lincoln. But then, it’s game on! You’ll pivot to our beloved sports team for college and high school football season – the most intense and thrilling time of the year! You’ll learn from the best, working under Sports Director Kevin Sjuts, telling the stories that absolutely lead our broadcasts (because in Nebraska, sports news is always the main event during the season!). And yes, we’ll provide all the training you need to excel in every aspect, news and sports.

What You’ll Do
• Own breaking news: Respond with urgency and precision to developing stories and critical weather events, delivering impactful, live reports for broadcast, streaming, and digital platforms.
• Craft compelling narratives: Research, investigate, shoot, write, and edit hard-hitting news stories and captivating sports features that resonate deeply with our Lincoln community.
• Drive digital engagement: Produce and publish engaging content for our website, social media channels, and streaming-only platforms, ensuring our stories reach viewers wherever they are.
• Connect with the heart of Nebraska: Develop sources, conduct interviews, and build authentic relationships within the community, bringing local voices and perspectives to the forefront.
• Shift gears for game day: Transition seamlessly during college football season to cover high school and iconic Husker football, providing exclusive insights and sideline reports (get ready for the roar of the crowd!).
• Team up for impact: Collaborate with our Assignment Manager, producers, and even our award-winning Sports Director Kevin Sjuts, to elevate coverage and produce unforgettable content.
• Anchor and podcast: Seize opportunities to anchor 10/11 Sports segments and contribute your voice to the “N Report” podcast, expanding your reach and honing your on-air presence.

What You Bring
• A burning passion for both news and sports storytelling – you see the big picture whether it’s breaking headlines or game-winning plays.
• Proven experience as a Multimedia Journalist; you’re comfortable behind (and in front of) the camera, with strong shooting, editing, and live reporting skills.
• A rock-solid digital-first mindset: You don’t just understand multi-platform content; you instinctively create it.
• Exceptional writing and storytelling ability: Your scripts are conversational, clear, and cut through the noise.
• Unflappable under pressure: Breaking news and live sports demand quick thinking, and you thrive in that environment.
• Self starter: You take initiative. You see a need, and jump in.
• Sharp news judgment: You know what matters to our viewers and how to deliver it with integrity.
• Adaptability and hunger to learn: The media landscape is always changing, and you’re excited to evolve with it.
• A true team player: You lift others up and know that the best work happens when we collaborate.

Why You’ll Love It Here
• Make a real impact: You’ll be part of the most-watched news team in Lincoln, telling stories that genuinely matter to our neighbors.
• Future-forward innovation: We’re embracing new tech, streaming, and original content, so you’ll build cutting-edge skills and experience that will propel your career.
• Mentorship that matters: Work alongside and learn from veterans like Sports Director Kevin Sjuts, gaining invaluable insights from a pro with 20+ years on the sidelines.
• Supportive, growth-focused culture: We prioritize your well-being, offer clear feedback, and provide opportunities for career advancement.
