Description

About the Public Tech Media Lab
The Public Tech Media Lab operates at the intersection of journalism and public interest technologies. Our objective is to support newsrooms in the development and implementation of open-source tools for digital investigations, and to design artificial intelligence systems oriented toward the public good. We aim to reinforce journalists’ professional autonomy, institutional accountability, and commitment to transparency. The Lab serves as a collaborative sandbox for journalists, technologists, and academics from different disciplines, where the ethical implications of emerging technologies can be collectively explored, solved, and anticipated.

Responsibilities:
• Support the Lab’s internal and external communications (website, newsletters, and social media).
• Draft and edit short-form and long-form content about Lab projects, events, and research.
• Assist with the promotion of workshops, courses, and public events.
• Help translate complex research and technical work into accessible communication materials.
• Coordinate with Lab members to ensure consistency in messaging and visual identity.

Application Materials:
• Curriculum Vitae (CV)
• Letter of interest outlining relevant skills, experience, and interest in journalism, technology, and public interest work.

Send materials to Tomás Dodds at doddsrojas@wisc.edu with the title of the internship you are applying for.

Application Deadline – February 11, 2026.
