The School of Journalism and Mass Communication is seeking a student hourly Social Media Video & Content Creation Intern for the spring 2026 semester, with the possibility for extension so long as your student status remains active and enrolled.

The Social Media Video & Content Creation Intern, under the direction of the communications manager, will assist with a wide range of projects including short-form social media content for Instagram Reels, long-form video for the SJMC website, event videography and more.

The successful candidate will work a flexible schedule around classes and other student commitments for up to 20 hours/week during the business hours of 8 a.m. and 4 p.m., Monday through Friday. The pay rate is $15/hour.

Duties

The duties of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Develop strategies for reaching prospective and current students, alumni, faculty and staff, and the community on a variety of platforms.
  • Plan, shoot and edit video content to support the SJMC social media, website and other digital strategies.
  • Collaborate with faculty, staff, students and alumni to develop video projects that capture the essence of SJMC life, academic programs and events.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • This position is open to all current UW-Madison students who have at least two semesters remaining on the UW campus.
  • Experience in creating videos for TikTok or Reels, or other platforms.
  • Experience using basic video editing software (e.g. Canva, CapCut, etc.)
  • Strong understanding of social media platforms, trends and best practices.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
