Director of Public Affairs, Green Bay Packers

Aaron Popkey (BA ’94) is director of public affairs for the Green Bay Packers. A veteran member of the organization’s leadership team with more than three decades of experience, he manages relationships with key stakeholders, including federal, state and local government officials, civic leaders, and regional economic development partners. He also oversees external communications and media relations for all non-football departments and serves as the club’s primary spokesperson.

During his tenure, Popkey has been involved in many of the organization’s most significant milestones, including the participation in Super Bowls XXXI, XXXII and XLV; the redevelopment and subsequent expansions of Lambeau Field; development of the Titletown district; and hosting the 2025 NFL Draft. He also helped produce projects marking the Packers’ 100th season, including the Midwest Emmy-nominated documentary Legacy: 100 Seasons of the Green Bay Packers and the award-winning book series The Greatest Story in Sports: Green Bay Packers 1919–2019.

His current strategic communications work focuses on leveraging the visibility of the Packers and Lambeau Field to elevate Northeast Wisconsin’s profile, supporting economic development and talent attraction across the region.

In addition to his professional role, Popkey serves as an adjunct instructor at the University of Wisconsin-Madison School of Journalism and Mass Communication and at St. Norbert College in De Pere, Wis.

Popkey has been active in community and nonprofit leadership, with board service including the Greater Green Bay Chamber, New North, Greater Green Bay YMCA, Notre Dame Academy, Wello, Bellin Health Foundation, Cellcom Green Bay Marathon, and Bay Nordic Ski Program.

He has received recognition for his work, including Notre Dame Academy’s Distinguished Alumni Award (2026), the Wisconsin Alumni Association Brown County Chapter’s Badger of the Year Award (2025), the City of Green Bay Mayor’s Extra Mile Award (2018), PRSA Northeast Wisconsin’s Communicator of the Year (2016), and the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources’ Friend of Forestry Award (2015).

A native of De Pere, Popkey earned his degree in journalism from the University of Wisconsin–Madison and received the SJMC’s Ralph Nafziger Award in 2005. He and his wife have three children, including a daughter currently attending UW.
